Councillor Eileen Harris' meal raises ?1,000 for St Albans charities in Lussmanns

A charity meal hosted by the Mayor of St Albans has raised ?1,000 for her two charities.
The city?s mayor, Councillor Eileen Harris, hosted the charity meal in Lussmanns restaurant on Sunday, February 10, which was attended by 68 people.
The meal raised ?1,000 for her chosen charities, Centre 33 and Special Olympics St Albans.
The Mayor of St Albans said: "I want to express my gratitude to everyone who gave so generously to Centre 33 and Special Olympics St Albans, the charities I support as mayor. Thank you to Lussmans Restaurant for helping us so generously.
"The work of Centre 33 and Special Olympics makes a huge difference to people?s lives. I am very grateful that so much money has been raised to benefit them."
Centre 33 is a drop-in centre in St Albans, run entirely by volunteers for homeless and socially or materially disadvantaged people.
Mark Arbeid, chairman of Centre 33, said he really appreciated the mayor?s support: "It makes an enormous difference to homeless and other disadvantaged people to have somewhere where they feel welcome, and where they can have social contact and get a free meal in a familiar environment.
"The mayor?s recognition is a huge encouragement to our volunteers for all their hard work and dedication.
"We are very grateful for the money that has been given at this charity meal. It makes it possible for us to continue giving practical support to some of the most vulnerable citizens of St Albans."
Special Olympics provides sport sessions to people with learning difficulties.
Susi Williams, Special Olympics St Albans Co-ordinator, said: "We are most grateful to the mayor for helping Special Olympics St Albans in our work to help people with learning disabilities to participate in sporting activities.
"This charity meal is a great encouragement to us, and we would like to thank all those who have given so generously tonight."
